Detailed itinerary of the Tanzania Wildlife & Chimp Trekking Safari – Katavi & Gombe (Day by Day)

Day 1: Transfer to Gombe Stream National Park.

Very early in the morning, you will either leave Bujumbura, Dar es Salaam, or Nyanza Lac for the Kabonga border with Tanzania, board the boat to Gombe National Park, get lunch, and thereafter take a forest walk and visit the Kakombe waterfall.

Gombe Stream National Park

In the 1960s, the late Jane Goodall focused on Gombe chimpanzees to satisfy her wanderlust and animal welfare concerns. Surprisingly, Jane had no scientific experience and had previously worked as a secretary. Jane’s work has revealed various chimpanzee-related results, including the discovery that chimps use tools, express emotions, and communicate in ways similar to humans.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking in Gombe Stream National Park

Enjoy your breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters, where you will start your chimpanzee trek in Gombe Stream National Park, where chimpanzee trekking is done. The main attraction here is the chimpanzee families that live protected in the park’s boundaries.

After receiving a briefing, visitors trek deep into the Gombe forest to observe and spend the entire morning with the extraordinary primates. Gombe became well known for the conservation project started by Jane Goodall, who first arrived there in 1960. Apart from chimpanzee viewing, many other species of primates live in Gombe Stream’s tropical forests, like velvet and colobus monkeys and baboons. DAY 3: Transfer to Katavi National Park.

Enjoy your breakfast and board the boat to Kigoma town with your packed lunch. Enjoy your packed lunch during the journey and continue on to your destination. Upon arrival, you will be picked up and transferred to Katavi National Park.

The park is noted for its Miombo woodland and is home to buffalo, elephants, leopards, lions, and zebras. Antelope species include eland, impala, topi, roan, and sable.
